Facial Profiler Helps You Find Your Twin

Facial Profiler

Have you ever been told that you have a twin out there?  Not sure about your story but I grew up in South East Oklahoma which is no where near St. Louis and I constantly see peoples twins up here. Well now you can find your twin using a new Facebook app.

Coca-Cola’s Coke Zero has begun conducting a “worldwide social experiment” with the launch of a Facebook application called the Facial Profiler. This new app sets forth to answer the question, “Is it possible someone out there has your face?”

Using the Facial Profiler, you can either upload a picture of yourself from your computer or take a snapshot using your webcam. Then after aligning the picture to an outline and marking your eye placement with the built-in editor, the program goes to work. It compares your image to others submitted in the application’s database and uses similar software used by law-enforcement to quickly come up with a match. Then you have the option to contact your match on Facebook.

It gave me a 61% match on the photo I uploaded.  I wasn’t too impressed but at the same time it’s pretty new.  I’m sure that it will get better as more people start to use it. Some of the other posted face matches on the Facial Profiler were pretty impressive

AT&T Strikes Again (kinda)

AT&T Strikes Again (Kinda)

Like we said, we figured this Ad Warwas just getting started.  AT&T has just launched another ad trying to strike back at Verizon.  This time AT&T is calling Verizon’s 3G network a headless, sluggish wannabe.  I think the guys at Engadget couldn’t have said it better.

We hate to point out the obvious, but it really seems that the marketing gurus at AT&T have this all wrong. Look guys — no one’s debating that AT&T’s 3G isn’t the fastest where available…  But Verizon’s recent slew of ads have been calling out the size of your 3G network, which you absolutely can’t argue is incredibly small when placed next to red-tinted competition.

So yeah… this is another one with Luke Wilson talking about how much faster AT&T’s network is than Big Red’s and ends in one of his downloads wondering off headless. I wonder how long before these ads get even more violent?

Get a free holiday postcard. Thanks Gmail

Sunday, December 6th, 2009

One of my favorite parts of Christmas is getting all the cheesy holiday cards from family and friends.  With the electronic age in full swing I now get a lot of crappy e-cards.  I’m sure its because it’s easier and what not but come on people!  Anyway, Google has decided to go retro this year to help us celebrate the holidays. They are offering Gmail users the opportunity to send one holiday card by snail mail. It won’t cost you anything and Google will ship it to any U.S. address for free. You are only allowed to send one card though, due to limited supplies and Google realizing just how many requests it is going to get from its millions of users.  (more info after the break)

If you’re trying to figure out who to send it to, send it to me!

Windows Phone Wants To Be A Bully Too. Goes After BlackBerry

Friday, December 4th, 2009

YouTube Preview Image

I guess since Verizon has been playing bully with it’s commercials knocking AT&T and their filings against Sprint, Microsoft wanted to get in on the bashing.  On the Windows Phone YouTube channel, they’ve posted a video that is bashing BlackBerry.

I don’t think it’s anywhere near as effective as the Verizon commercials though.  In fact it looks like a desperate attempt to match that style. (FAIL)  As pocketnow.com pointed out though, it doesn’t have any of the WIndows Phone branding so it probably wasn’t setup for TV.  Maybe it’s just a test spot on YouTube to see how people react to them being copycats.

Verizon goes after Sprint. Let the ad wars begin!

Tuesday, November 24th, 2009

us_sprint_nextel_ads

It seems like Verizon is going after everyone now.  Maybe they’re feeding off the victory of beating AT&T regarding the “There’s a map for that” ads.  Verizon is now complaining to the The National Advertising Division of the Council of Better Business Bureaus about Sprint’s “America’s most dependable 3G network” tagline. Verizon claims that a recent Nielsen survey shows its network drops fewer calls than Sprint’s, and for now the bureaucrats agree — the board’s asked Sprint to stop airing the ads.

Crazy right? well Sprint says one study doesn’t tell the whole tale, and they’re going to keep showing the ads while it appeals to the National Advertising Review Board.

Is Verizon out for blood with everyone now?  Nobody likes a bully… Read More

New iPhone ads strike back at Verizon (video)

Monday, November 23rd, 2009

apple_launching

So you may or may not know that Apple filed a lawsuit against Verizon for their “We’ve got a map for that” campaign.  Well the judge shot that down, so how did Apple react?  The only way they know how… a commercial.  The new campaign launching tonight focuses on the iPhone’s ability to carry voice and data simultaneously on AT&T’s network, and each of the two new TV spots ends with the line “Can your phone and your network do that?” From where we’re sitting, it looks like between this new round and AT&T’s Luke Wilson-manned comparison spots, both the phonemaker and carrier are fully stepping into the ring. Who’s going to get knocked out first?.

New Droid “Stealth” Commercial Rocks

Wednesday, November 4th, 2009

Now I’m a Sprint man myself.  Always have been.  It is because of that I tell you that with lots of jealousy that the new Verizon Droid commercial dropped and it is amazing.  The one minute commercial, “Stealth”, is better than the hour and a half (or however long I wasted) movie of the same name.  The reviews have been fantastic and I’d love to get my hands on a demo unit.  Hopefully the “Droid” won’t remain exclusive with Verizon forever like the iPhone but instead will realize the value in branching out to multiple networks like the “Palm Pre”.

HTC You ad campaign: A phone that gets you

Thursday, October 29th, 2009

you

You don’t need to get a phone. You need a phone that gets you.  That’s a line from HTC’s new “quetly brilliant” campaign.  They have definitely been a major name for Windows Mobile users for a while now, but it looks like the company’s gearing up to go mainstream — this is the first print ad from the new HTC You campaign that launched on Monday. Considering HTC’s recent slew of high-profile handset launches like the HeroHD2, and Tilt2 and equally-promising upcoming products like the Dragon and Droid Eris, we’d say this marketing push hasn’t come a moment too soon. As for the ad itself, while it’s not exactly a knockdown punch, it certainly suggests that HTC sees Sense UI as its ace in the hole — we’ll see how that plays out as Android 2.0 phones like the Motorola Droid come out and make stock Android sexy again.

Check out the TV ads after the break.
