Pencil Bench: Not as sharp as nails

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010

Have you ever had the urge to sit on 1600 pencils?  Me either… well at least not until I saw this.  Boex 3D Creative Solutions designed this bench inspired from a single conversation to see if they could incorporate an everyday office object into a piece of furniture.  Design wise I think it looks awesome but I still don’t think it will be very comfortable.

Wolfgang Keyboard Bench: It’s made for sits…

Monday, February 22nd, 2010

This cool looking thing is the Wolfgang Keyboard Bench by designer Nolan Herbut.  It uses 2000 keys embedded into a layered Baltic birch wood.  Just like a keyboard you can press each key so you get that nice little clicking sound when you move around.  For some this might be a sensory overload but it’s probably more comfortable than a bench made out of 1600 pencils.

The Do Hit Chair

Tuesday, January 19th, 2010

Do you like breaking stuff?  Like when these designers encourage the buyer to customize their purchase, and when that customization involves smashing said purchase with an included hammer. Yeah, I thought so and we do too.

Designed by Marijn van der Poll, the Do Hit Chair ($TBA) is a box made from 1.25mm stainless steel measuring roughly 40″ by 28″ by 30″, which you’re supposed to mold into whatever shape you like (aka beat the hell out of it) using the included long-handle, wide-head hammer.

The Urban Adapter by Rocker-Lange

Tuesday, January 12th, 2010

This super contemporary city bench is the work or Rocker Lange Architects.  The “Urban Adapter” was designed as urban street furniture for Hong Kong but it would be cool to have some of these in St. Louis?

Recycled skateboards make “Deck Stools”

deck-stools1

Add some skater style to your crib while helping out the environment with Deck Stools($150). Made from broken skateboard decks, Deck Stools feature natural distressing from normal wear-and-tear and art that’s unique to each numbered piece, all held together with a modified skateboard truck. Stylish, comfortable, and eco-friendly — a win-win-win.
