Let Snoop Dogg Give You Directions

I’m a fan of the hot sounding British lady myself but I’m sure that some of you wouldn’t mind Snoop Dogg giving you turn by turn.  Snoop recently worked with VoiceSkin to record a voice over for the TomTom GPS.

There are two versions of the voice over: one that is rated G – without swearing and somewhat understandable and the other has tons of swearing and is hardly understandable.  I wish we had a clip from that one.

Snoop said, “Its really because when I be riding the car and I be hearing the boring ass lady that be doing all the time it bothering me.  She's always turning my music down and being like, ‘turn left, go right, straight ahead.’  No, we got to add some flavor to that.”

You can see the “Behind the Scenes” after the break. Read More

Google Maps Finally Gets Turn-by-Turn

Wednesday, October 28th, 2009

I’ve been saying for years that Google Maps should have turn by turn.  Well today my dream came true.   With Google and Verizon Wireless announcing the Motorola Droid, Google has announced the new Google Maps Navigation, which will give turn-turn driving directions, traffic information from multiple sources, voice search that includes soft searches, and layers of traffic and visual data, not to mention getting watching where you go through Street View. The price? Free.  So you say this must be too good to be true.  In a way it is. At this time, Google Maps with voice guidance is limited to Android 2.0.

Seems like every device these days has to do double-duty. Phones must have cameras, cameras must play music, games need GPS, and now, GPS units must take pictures.

The new Garmin Oregon 550 and Oregon 550t are handheld GPS units with a 3.2-megapixel autofocus camera with 4x digital zoom. The camera has 850MB of internal storage but also has a microSD card slot for additional storage and data transfer. The pictures are geotagged so you can know exactly where they were taken.

From a company like Garmin, you know the waterproof GPS is gonna rock. It has detailed street maps and turn-by-turn directions. It has hiking-specific topo maps and marine data too. Best yet
