DJ Decks By Metrofarm

Tuesday, March 9th, 2010

I’m not real big into house, electronica or techno but I’ve got some friends that are.  So when I saw these turntables I definitely thought of them.  The Berlin-based Metrofarm is the design house responsible for this collection of sweet, custom built turntables for DJs who want that extra style.

USB-XLR Mic Cable lets you use your good microphones

Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010

I’ve talked a couple times about different microphones for recording and podcasts and such.  Well this time it’s a cable that caught my eye.  Yeah I know, I’m a geek…  This isn’t just any cable though.  It’s the USB-XLR Mic Cable ($55) and does exactly what the name says.  It connects to your computer on one end via USB and then to your professional XLR mic on the other end.

Now all you have to do is read Japanese. (or use Google Translate)

Snowflake USB Microphone Looks Sweet

Wednesday, January 27th, 2010

I’ve been looking into a lot of podcast stuff lately for work and one of the mics I came accross was the Snowflake USB Microphone($45) by Blue Microphones’.  Not only does it have a pretty sleek design it’s functional as well.  It can sit on a desk with its built-in stand or can hang over the back of a laptop monitor. And the mic can slide into its drawer to protect it and to store the USB cable.

Samson Q2U Microphone

One of the things we’ve been gearing up for at Freakn’ Sweet is our new Beer & Gear podcast that talks about the gadgets we need and the beers we love.   While we’ve been getting things going the toughest things we’ve ran into was trying to fine a quality microphone.  Sure, there are a variety of ways to get your high-end XLR audio onto your PC, but the solutions we’ve seen aren’t exactly cheap.

Shure’s dual-purpose mics cost up to $250 and while the Icicle adapter is only $60, it’s a strictly BYO microphone affair. Samson’s Q2U ($89) package includes all you’ll need to become a podcasting wunderkind, most important being the mic itself, which comes with both XLR and USB cables. It also features an integrated 3.5mm headphone jack for zero-latency monitoring, includes a set of studio headphones, and even comes with a tripod so we can double fist our beers.
