Facebook for iPhone gets an update

Monday, January 11th, 2010

If you haven’t heard yet, the Facebook app for iPhone jumped to Version 3.1 last week.  You now get push notifications as well as the ability to sync your friends to the iPhone address book.  I wish Android did that.  Anyway, it adds their profile pictures to the contact info.

If you haven’t picked it up yet head over to the app store to get it…. NOW!!!

YouTube Preview Image

A lot of people have wanted Flash 10.1 to come to Android and recently  this video surfaced showing off Adobe Flash 10.1 on a Nexus One.  Sure, the games and videos are going to be great which is what I’m looking forward to but what about – you guessed it – ads?  So what do you think about the ads?

Apple’s App Store hits 3,000,000,000 downloads

Thursday, January 7th, 2010

Yes, the nine zeros behind the three make that 3 Billion.  Even though I’m an Android guy (a WinMo convert) I still think this is an amazing benchmark for the mobile market.   With over 125,000 active applications available in the U.S. store, Apple seems to be proving that variety is the spice of life, and will keep users hitting the download button — over 10.2 million times per day in the last 98 days to be exact. For a relative comparison, there are around 18,000 applications available in Android’s Market and just over 4,000 applications available for RIM’s BlackBerry. Steve Jobs was quoted as saying, “the revolutionary App Store offers iPhone and iPod touch users an experience unlike anything else available on other mobile devices, and we see no signs of the competition catching up anytime soon.”

I don’t say this often… Awesome job Apple!

An app store dedicated to porn? [NSFW]

Wednesday, January 6th, 2010

I’m not sure why but one of the questions I get asked about my phone is “can you get porn on that?”  Well yes, it has the interweb…  Now if you’re on Android you don’t need to use your browser anymore, you can actually install apps.  Meet MiKandi.  MiKandi is a white label app store for free and paid-for apps, allowing developers to upload more content around their filthy apps–including YouTube tutorials if you’re so inclined.

I’m not much of a porn guy myself but I’m sure some of you with harry palms will take this for a spin.

Bing for Mobile: Is change good?

Bing for mobile

Bing has recently released Bing Maps for a Windows Phone, Blackberry and iPhone.  It’s pretty different from the Google Maps experience so you’ll have to decide if that’s a good thing or bad thing.  So check it out for yourself by heading to m.bing.com and downloading it directly to your phone.

Let us know your thoughts.

Could this be Apple Navigation?

Friday, December 11th, 2009

MacRumors has found about an Apple job listing that, uncharacteristically for Apple, hints at a possible mapping service from Apple. The company is seeking an iPhone Software Engineer that will join Apple’s team developing the Maps application for the iPhone OS. Apple says the chosen individual and his colleagues will be tasked to take the Maps app “the next level”:

We want to take Maps to the next level, rethink how users use Maps and change the way people find things. We want to do this in a seamless, highly interactive and enjoyable way. We’ve only just started.

I wonder if this means Google isn’t planing on bringing Google Navigation to the iPhone.

Twitter launches a new mobile site, it’s pretty and stuff.

Twitter Mobile

If you haven’t at least heard of Twitter yet than you are probably living in a van down by the river and this doesn’t apply to you but if not…  On Friday Twitter debuted it’s new mobile site. This was much needed and to be honest, I think it works better than most of the Apps out there (with the exception of giving you updates).

qrcode The site, which is available by heading to http://mobile.twitter.com on your mobile phone, has an all new look.

It’s just a preview so Twitter says the site works best on @Webkit browsers – Android, iPhone, Nokia S60 and Palm Web OS phones all come with these browsers installed. Other browsers like @BlackBerry work too, but they haven’t done all the fine tuning yet.

Is HTC bringing Android 2.1 to the Hero?

Monday, November 30th, 2009

hero-android21

After the Droid launched on Verizon running Android 2.0 we were all asking the question, “When will the Hero get the update?”  Well HTC promised us an Android 2.0-based firmware for the Hero line once it figured out the nitty gritty details of porting Sense to Googles latest code, leapfrogging Donut altogether — but now, it looks like theyre gonna do one better.

Screenshots found today show a Hero running Android 2.1, which would dovetail nicely with the fact that Google had teased a “minor update” to 2.0 before the end of 2009 back when it announced Eclair last month. The interface looks largely untouched from 1.5, proof that HTC was able to bring Sense up to speed with minimum drama; its unclear when thisll all be available, but considering that Sprints version just got a super-minor update, some carrier-branded versions could be in for a wait.
