The Best Mobile Apps for the 2010 World Cup

Wednesday, June 9th, 2010

Football, soccer, the hooligans game  - whatever you call it, the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa is about to help boost beer sells everywhere.  This madness that only comes every four years is just two days away and I don’t know about you, but I can’t wait!  The last couple weeks now my friends and I have been talking about how we’re going to follow the games.  Some said they’re  going to catch the first game at the International Tap House (who is opening their doors at 9am), some on the couch at home or if you’re like me, stuck at work and wishing you were at a bar at 9am.  The one that really stood out to me was the answer, “On my phone.”  I mean why not we do pretty much everything else on our phones and hell, if you’ve got an EVO you can even watch the match live on ESPN Mobile using Sprint TV.  OK, for those of you that know me or follow Freakn’ Sweet, you know I’m a phone geek so it shouldn’t be a surprise that this got me thinking:

What are the best mobile apps for following the 2010 World Cup?

The US 2010 World Cup Jersey by Nike [I Want!]

Monday, March 1st, 2010

Who’s ready for the World Cup?  I am!  We’ve shown you the Adidas Jabulani, the official ball for 2010 but to get you a little more pumped, here’s the US 2010 World Cup Jersey by Nike ($70).  The jersey is retro in style refrencing the 1950 World Cup match versus England.  Some of it’s new features are Nike Sphere Dry and Dri-FIT technology, an embroidered US team badge and a big ass Nike logo.

Now I want to go to South Africa…

Table&Tennis: I need this at work

Monday, March 1st, 2010

I think everyone should be able to play at work and Ryan Vanderbilt agrees.  Table&Tennis was his idea to merge beautiful design, with a conference table and build it to the official specs of a ping pong table. It’s built so that it can transition simply and instantly between the different uses.  Not only do I think this is a great way to start the week, I think we need this in the office.  Man… I’m full of “thinks” today.  More pics after the break. 2010 FIFA World Cup Final Draw is live RIGHT NOW!

Friday, December 4th, 2009

The Final Draw for the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™, just went live!  They also just released the official ball for the competition. The Adidas Jabulani, which means ‘to celebrate’ in isiZulu, is the 11th edition of adidas’s FIFA World Cup balls.

The 11 colors that are present on the Jabulani pay tribute to both football and the country in which Africa’s first-ever FIFA World Cup will be held. They represent a colour for each team player, every official South African language and for each of the 11 South African communities that will welcome the world next year. The design celebrates two of the most important facets of the South African nation – diversity and harmony – as it is these principles that make it such a colorful and welcoming nation.

Head over and check out the live draw going on now!

Baseball with Built in Radar Gun Tells How Fast You Pitch

Monday, June 22nd, 2009

baseball-radar-gun-thumb

Curious as to how fast you can throw a baseball? The standard way to find that out would be by acquiring a baseball and a radar gun. But why buy two items when you can buy one that combines them both?

The SmartBall is a baseball with a built-in radar gun that shows you exactly how fast you throw it. Sure, it probably has a different weight than a normal ball and hitting it with a bat is a quick way to break your expensive new ball, but if you want to gauge your pitches this looks like as good a way as any.

Stationary Bike Provides Total Workout

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009

I ran across this over at “The Bachelor Guy” and thought it was pretty sweet. It is a stationary bike that allows for expanded movement from side to side and is even stable enough for those stand up climbs on hills. Now I’m not a bike rider but I know our resident rider Cullen would appreciate this. Although he’s not quite as intense as friend of the site “9 Pin”. Little tip for “9 Pin”…when you’re in the middle of nowhere and you want to stretch, keep at least one hand on the handlebars and an eye out for potholes. That’s a quick way to end up with a titanium plate and nine pins in your arm.

Something to help break in that new driver

I came across this and had to share it.
