Gameloft Ports Driver to iPhone

Driver for iPhone

One thing that I’m jealous of the iPhone for are the games.  Here’s perfect example, remember Driver?  Well if you’re too young to remember Duck Tails than you probably don’t.  It was one of the greatest car chase games ever and it’s coming to iPhone in December.  What’s even better is Gameloft has completely remastered it.

Driver for the iPhone is based on the original PlayStation game and all the key ingredients that had kept players glued to the original game will be featured. You are Tanner, an undercover cop slipping into the ranks of the Castaldi family, a crime organization that has been too powerful to bring down from the outside. To work your way up the ranks of the family and earn trust, you must undertake a variety of missions, such as races, making drops, or chasing down fleeing vehicles. Driver spans four cities: Miami, San Francisco, New York, and Los Angeles.  Not to mention that awesome ’70s music.

Check out some videos of game play after the break.

Driver is a hugely popular action driving franchise originally developed by Reflections Interactive in 1999. The game owes much of its popularity to pleasant and highly responsive controls and that vintage look of the ’70s car chase movies. It’s said that the game borrowed both its title and the basic theme from the 1978 Walter Hill movie The Driver, evidenced by the fact that the training level in the original game represents a carbon-copy of a scene in the movie in which you prove your skills to gangsters in a parking garage. IGN named Driver one of the top 25 PlayStation games of all time. The game has been submitted to the App Store and is pending approval from Apple.
