The Best Mobile Apps for the 2010 World Cup

Wednesday, June 9th, 2010

Football, soccer, the hooligans game  - whatever you call it, the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa is about to help boost beer sells everywhere.  This madness that only comes every four years is just two days away and I don’t know about you, but I can’t wait!  The last couple weeks now my friends and I have been talking about how we’re going to follow the games.  Some said they’re  going to catch the first game at the International Tap House (who is opening their doors at 9am), some on the couch at home or if you’re like me, stuck at work and wishing you were at a bar at 9am.  The one that really stood out to me was the answer, “On my phone.”  I mean why not we do pretty much everything else on our phones and hell, if you’ve got an EVO you can even watch the match live on ESPN Mobile using Sprint TV.  OK, for those of you that know me or follow Freakn’ Sweet, you know I’m a phone geek so it shouldn’t be a surprise that this got me thinking:

What are the best mobile apps for following the 2010 World Cup?

iPhone 4 Gets Official, launching June 24 for $199

Monday, June 7th, 2010

It’s no surprise that Apple unveiled its new iPhone 4 ($200-$300) today and it looks just like we expected.  I’m still a die hard Android fan but after seeing this I guess I should take back a couple of those mean things I’ve said about Apple over the past couple months.   Hardware wise this new bread takes a huge leap forward with features like an Apple A4 processor, app multitasking, 7 hours of talk time, a backlit 5-megapixel camera with an LED flash and 720p video recording (and iMovie), a front-facing camera for FaceTime video calls, an eye-popping 960 x 640 Retina display, a glass front and back and stainless steel body, and one of the skinniest profiles on the market.

So now that you want this, here’s what you need to know.  They hit AT&T on June 24th and will be available in white or black, retailing at $199 for the 16GB model and $299 for 32GB.   The 3GS will be dropped to $99 and the 3G will disappear completely. Pre-orders start in a week, with 5 countries at launch (US, France, Germany, UK, Japan), with 18 more following in July.

Final Fantasy I & II hit the iPhone

Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010

Final Fantasy VII could arguably be one of the greatest games ever but before FF7 there was I & II cause numbers go in order…  Anyway, FF1 & FF2 have just been ported to the iPhone.  Square Enix gave the artwork an update before launching it and it looks a lot nicer than the original.  Too bad they want $9 for it.  I know, I’m a cheap ass.

Google Voice FINALLY on iPhone and Palm… Kinda?

Thursday, January 28th, 2010

First off, are you a Google Voice user?  Well if not you should check it out because it’s pretty sweet.  Second, Google Voice is now available for the iPhone and the Palm Pre and Pixi via a mobile web site.   Now we definitely would have preferred an app like you can get on an Android device but hey, this is better than nothing right?

I wonder what AT&T thinks about this?

Apple to announce their ‘latest creation’ on Wednesday, January 27th

Tuesday, January 26th, 2010

Apple has started the buzz again by announcing their upcoming keynote.  Everyone is pretty sure this is where the world will get the first look at the Apple Tablet or iSlate or whatever clever name they come up with.  There are also other rumors about the  iPhone 4.0 and the possibility of Apple breaking that “only at AT&T” tie.  (It’s about time if you ask me)

We’ll keep you up to date on what we hear.  Make sure to follow us on Twitter @freaknsweet.  The show gets going on Wednesday, January 27th at 10AM PT.

Ever want a self portrait in Legos?

Wednesday, January 20th, 2010

Alright iPhone users, I’m jealous once again because you guys get a chance.  Lego has released the iPhone Lego Photo App, which converts an iPhone snapshot or image from your library into a Lego piece mosaic.  If you were awesome you could use the picture as a guide to make a real life Lego portrait.

But again, that’s only if you’re awesome….
