SynthStation: A mobile production studio

Tuesday, January 19th, 2010

The iPhone can do just about anything (except make calls…. ouch) so why not make it a music production studio?  Well now you can. SynthStation Studio gives you three powerful synthesizers for creating and modifying sonic textures used for melodies, chords, and bass lines. Built around Akai Professional’s history in synthesis and drawing on the newest MINIAK synth, SynthStation sounds great and offers wide-ranging sonic flexibility with its virtual analog synthesis.

The SynthStation has an on-screen piano keyboard so you can key in ideas on the go. To take full-performance advantage of its power, SynthStation mates perfectly with Akai’s iPK25 docking synth keyboard.

I agree with Brent from Blaccessorize.us though, we need an Android version!

The QR Coded Building

Thursday, January 14th, 2010

We’ve started seeing QR codes a lot more especially with Android and iPhone having bar code scanners.  I can honestly say that I didn’t expect to see this.  At least not so soon.  Thanks to Terada Design a building in the city of Tachikawa, Tokyo, Japan, has been constructed with a QR Code facade. The QR Code links to a site which includes up to date shop information. There is also an unofficial iPhone application available that allows the building to be viewed in real-time with an overlay of Twitter feed comments located via GPS tagging from inside the building. (kinda creepy)

The video after the break shows what the building looks like and some of the augmented reality features it has. Read More

Facebook for iPhone gets an update

Monday, January 11th, 2010

If you haven’t heard yet, the Facebook app for iPhone jumped to Version 3.1 last week.  You now get push notifications as well as the ability to sync your friends to the iPhone address book.  I wish Android did that.  Anyway, it adds their profile pictures to the contact info.

If you haven’t picked it up yet head over to the app store to get it…. NOW!!!

Apple’s App Store hits 3,000,000,000 downloads

Thursday, January 7th, 2010

Yes, the nine zeros behind the three make that 3 Billion.  Even though I’m an Android guy (a WinMo convert) I still think this is an amazing benchmark for the mobile market.   With over 125,000 active applications available in the U.S. store, Apple seems to be proving that variety is the spice of life, and will keep users hitting the download button — over 10.2 million times per day in the last 98 days to be exact. For a relative comparison, there are around 18,000 applications available in Android’s Market and just over 4,000 applications available for RIM’s BlackBerry. Steve Jobs was quoted as saying, “the revolutionary App Store offers iPhone and iPod touch users an experience unlike anything else available on other mobile devices, and we see no signs of the competition catching up anytime soon.”

I don’t say this often… Awesome job Apple!

Could this be Apple Navigation?

Friday, December 11th, 2009

MacRumors has found about an Apple job listing that, uncharacteristically for Apple, hints at a possible mapping service from Apple. The company is seeking an iPhone Software Engineer that will join Apple’s team developing the Maps application for the iPhone OS. Apple says the chosen individual and his colleagues will be tasked to take the Maps app “the next level”:

We want to take Maps to the next level, rethink how users use Maps and change the way people find things. We want to do this in a seamless, highly interactive and enjoyable way. We’ve only just started.

I wonder if this means Google isn’t planing on bringing Google Navigation to the iPhone.
